OELPA

The Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) is the state test used to determine an English learner’s proficiency level. The OELPA is aligned to Ohio’s Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade English Language Proficiency Standards. It is used to meet the federal requirement of an annual assessment of English proficiency, measuring listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The OELPA is required for all English learners. The results help track a student’s progress towards grade-level English proficiency.

STAR Math/Reading

STAR Reading and STAR Math are standardized, computer-adaptive assessments by Renaissance Learning, Inc. Students are tested at the beginning, middle, and end of each school year to monitor progress in reading and math. Results indicate learning and grade levels for each student. Teachers are able to monitor a student’s ability regarding which learning standards they have achieved and which they need to practice and master.

NWEA MAP

What is NWEA MAP?

  • Computer‑adaptive assessment that adjusts question difficulty based on student responses
  • Measures growth over time in Reading, Math, Language Usage, and Science. (fall, winter, and spring)
  • Provides a RIT score that shows a student’s instructional level, not just grade-level placement
  • Used nationally to compare performance and track progress across the year

What MAP Tells Us

  • Identifies readiness levels for each student
  • Highlights strengths and skill gaps across domains
  • Predicts future performance and helps set growth goals
  • Supports differentiated instruction by grouping students based on skill need

Understanding MAP Colors – Interpret Student Performance

  • Blue (80th-above): High Achievement / Above Grade-Level Readiness
  • Green (60th-79th): At/Slightly Above Grade-Level Readiness
  • Yellow (40th-59th): Approaching Grade-Level Readiness, students are close to meeting expectations but may have specific skill gaps.
  • Orange (20th-39th): Below Grade-Level Readiness, students are performing below national norms and require intentional intervention
  • Red (below 20th): Significantly Below Grade-Level Readiness, students need intensive, structured intervention and consistent progress monitoring.

How We Use MAP Colors in Instruction

  • Flexible grouping decisions: Colors help us quickly form skill‑based groups.
  • Targeted intervention planning: Red/orange students receive structured support aligned to specific domains.
  • Enrichment pathways: Blue/green students receive challenge tasks, deeper application, and extension.
  • Progress monitoring cycles: Colors help track growth from fall → winter → spring.

Our Curriculum

The school applies Ohio’s Learning Standards and Model Curriculum throughout all core subject areas. Ohio’s standards outline the skills and content knowledge that are expected at each grade level that will help students become ready for success in college and careers. INTAC uses the standards for its non-core subjects as well, such as Art, Music, Creative Writing, Technology, and Physical Education.
